Lisa has spent more than twenty years as a bookkeeper — and nearly as long preparing personal tax returns. But the idea for NextGen came from watching her own millennial kids dread tax season: the appointment, the cubicle, the hour spent watching a stranger type into a screen, when every step of it could happen digitally. So she asked a simple question: what would a tax company designed for their generation look like? In 2025, she partnered with Charity Giannakos to build the answer — and to modernize how Canadians file.

Charity brings years of business and tax experience to NextGen — including time spent working in one of those very cubicles, preparing returns while clients sat across the desk and watched. She'll tell you she got remarkably good at doing small talk and tax prep at the same time — and that nobody's return was better for it. So when Lisa pitched a fully digital tax company built around real specialists instead of waiting rooms, she recognized it instantly as the better way. Today she leads NextGen's day-to-day operations.
